大雅堂は1929年に庄司洋三が日本画の表装を生業とした表具店を創業しました。その後、1972年に二代目・惠一が清水寺参道の五条坂に画廊を開廊しました。今後の美術界を担っていく若手作家や、十分に活動の場を得られない中堅作家の発表の場となるように、そんな願いが込められました。そして、1986年に現在の八坂神社北側の祇園の地に移転し、2008年より三代目・雅一が跡を引き継ぎました。昨年、2022年に大雅堂は開廊50周年を迎えました。
日本画や工芸だけでなく、現代美術とさらに視野を広げ、世界に通じる素晴らしいアーティスト達の発掘・発信に努めております。
Taigado was founded in 1929 by Yozo Shoji as a hanging scroll mounting craftsman in Kyoto
A gallery was established at Gojozaka in 1972 by his sun Keiichi. The gallery is opened for young artists who will be responsible for the art world in the future.
Taigado moved to expand the space to Gion, next to Yasaka Shrine in 1986.
Masakazu, the third generation is taking the gallery which is not only focused on Japanese-style painters, any style of craftsmen but also actively tries to develop with contemporary artists since 2008.
We are expanding our horizons and striving to discover and disseminate wonderful artists who are well known to the world over 50 years.
